Professor Arne Olofsson, head of the English department at Gothenburg University, presents the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alasdair Smith, with a commemorative salver to mark the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Gothenburg Programme at Sussex.
The Gothenburg Programme at Sussex, one of the University's most long-standing and successful international agreements, is still going strong 30 years after the first group of Gothenburg undergraduates arrived on campus in January 1975.
In a recent evaluation carried out by the National Agency for Higher Education in Sweden, the English department at Gothenburg was especially commended for its programme at Sussex as "setting a good example for how internationalisation can be integrated in the teaching".

The vice chancellor and chairman of Gothenburg University, together with a contraversial psychiatry professor have all been charged with 'intentional or negligent misconduct' by the justice ombudsman.
The highly unusual action is the latest twist in a long-running saga concerning the research findings of the man at the centre of the case, Professor Christopher Gillberg.
The Justice Ombudsman accuses vice chancellor, Gunnar Svedberg, and chairman of the university's board, Arne Wittlöv, of failing to implement the court's decision vigorously enough.
