Key issues of the politically charged debate were intellectual property, course quality assurance versus intellectual freedom, the role of deans/departments in the selection of adjunct and full-time instructors, and addressing the unique needs of two very different campuses located 45 miles apart.
Rather than a paradigm shift to an online model, a delicate balance has been struck between the traditional structures and procedures of the university and the new administrative functions required to rapidly respond to changes in the online education market and ensure competitive advantage and ultimate survival of the virtual campus.
