The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, also known as UIUC and the U of I (the officially preferred abbreviation), is the flagship campus in the University of Illinois system.
The campus was originally established as the Illinois Industrial University in Urbana in 1867 under the Morrill Land Grant Act of 1862, which provided western lands to each state to establish a university for agriculture and engineering.
Gregory Hall on the campus of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign hosted an important meeting of the National Association of Educational Broadcasters in the 1940s that spawned both PBS and NPR.

An interdisciplinary research team at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is exploring a wide range of solid state systems based on the manipulation and measurement of magnetic moments to perform quantum logic operations.
By studying the full range, from single spins to small clusters of spins (in quantum dots), to large current loops in superconductors, they are attempting to assess the relative merit of different techniques, and determine the physical size limits for magnetic systems acting as qubits.
