WINNIPEG, Manitoba – The University of Manitoba will receive $5.6 million in funding from the Government of Canada and the Province of Manitoba to develop SMARTpark, a research park on the Fort Garry Campus.
"Knowledge is the key commodity in today’s global economy and university research is society’s primary source of this knowledge," said Dr. Em´´ke Szathmáry, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Manitoba.
The University of Manitoba has designated over 100 acres of land at the Fort Garry Campus for the SMARTpark project.

 University of Manitoba receives $750K for asthma research
A major drug company has given the University of Manitoba $750,000 to help establish a research chair in pediatric asthma and allergies.
In accepting the donation, Dr. Estelle Simons, the university's head of allergy and clinical immunology at Winnipeg's Children's Hospital, outlined the severity of what she calls an asthma "epidemic."
Simons said university researchers are trying to learn how to "turn off" the triggers of asthma, which can include illnesses, exercise and allergens such as pets, smoke, and pollution.
