UOIT is located at a single campus on a 400 acre (1.6 km²) property, which it shares with Durham College.
UOIT accepted over 900 students in 2003 and total enrolment was over 3000 in the 2005-2006 school year making it the fastest growing university in Ontario.
The residences for UOIT are Simcoe Village and South Village.

  (1)  A university to be known as the University of Ontario Institute of Technology in English and Institut universitaire de technologie de l’Ontario in French is hereby established. ; 2002, c. 8, Sched. O, s. 2 (1).
  (1)  There shall be an academic council of the university consisting of the president of the university and such voting and non-voting members as may be provided for in the by-laws of the university so long as a majority of the voting members are members of the teaching staff of the university.  2002, c. 8, Sched. O, s. 10 (1).
(2)  Land vested in the university and land and premises leased to and occupied by the university are exempt from provincial and municipal taxes and development charges, so long as the vested land or leased land and premises are actually used and occupied for the objects of the university.  2002, c. 8, Sched. O, s. 15 (2).

 Ontario University Athletics
The OUA is pleased to announce that the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, based in Oshawa, ON, will join the league for the beginning of the 2006/07 athletic season.
UOIT, a science and technology focused school with programs in Commerce, Criminology and Nursing, among others, began operation in the fall of 2002 and has quickly expanded to a student population of 3,100.
UOIT will be holding a press conference in the near future to publicly unveil the Ridgebacks logo and introduce the varsity coaches.
