University of Patras (Greek: Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών Panepistimio Patron) is a university located 6 km northeast of downtown Patras, 3 km S of the Rio-Antirio bridge, 206 km W of Athens, 106 km NE of Pyrgos and 2 km east of Rio, Greece.
The university is accessible by GR-8A, and now the new bypass (perimeter highway) with an interchange in the west and an westbound interchange in the northeast, the old GR8 and Papandreou Avenue (Boulevard) linking Kastritsi and the Panachaicus.

Patras is located 215 kilometers west of Athens by road, 94 kilometers northeast of Pyrgos, 7 kilometers south of Rio, 134 kilometers west of Corinth, 77 kilometers northwest of Kalavryta, and 144 kilometers northwest of Tripoli.
In 1204 Patras was conquered by the Fourth Crusade, and became the seat of the Latin Duchy of Achaia within the Principality of Achaea.Captured in 1205 by William of Champlitte and Villehardouin, the city became the capital and its archbishop the primate of the principality of Achaea.
Patras was liberated on 7 October 1828 by the French expeditionary force in the Peloponnese, under the command of General Maison.

The Laboratory for Automation and Robotics (LAR) is one of the most active laboratories in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering currently it has a staff of 3 members of faculty, 12 researchers, 5 associates, 3 assistants and equipment that includes an industrial robot, several PLCs, a Sun Workstation and 15 PCs.
More than that, the Laboratory is participating in several research programs that range from industrial projects, such as the automation of the Water distribution system in the City of Patras, to theoretical research in systems and controls.
