Recently, the Pavia group, mainly in collaboration with SISSA, has been investigating various aspects of this interplay between simplicial quantum gravity, TQFTs, representations of the fundamental group and moduli space theory in order to get a deeper understanding of the geometry underlying dynamically triangulated surfaces and non-critical string theory.
For what concerns "spin network"-type models in generic dimension n, the corresponding state sums will be extended to the case of manifolds with boundary and related to the geometry of the moduli space generated by the conjugacy classes of distinct representations of the fundamental group of the manifold into SU(2).
The Pavia team and the other teams partecipating in the proposal each have experience and high level of expertise in these areas.

Golgi returned to the University of Pavia as Extraordinary Professor of Histology, went to Siena for a short time, but returned to Pavia and was appointed to the Chair for General Pathology in 1881, in succession to his teacher Bizzozero.
Golgi was Rector of Pavia University for a long time and was also made a Senator of the Kingdom of Italy.
The Historical Museum at the University of Pavia dedicated a hall to Golgi, where more than 80 certificates of honorary degrees, diplomas and awards are exhibited.
