The University of Pittsburgh is a rather large, public institution located in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and has a combined graduate and undergraduate population of over 11,640 students.
Admission to the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Law is quite competitive among the many students who apply; last year, over 2,210 students applied for admission to the school, and approximately 700 of those students were accepted.
Students at the School of Law don’t seem terribly nervous about finding jobs after graduating; in fact, over 98% of the most recently graduating students were able to find jobs within a few months of receiving their degrees, and had an average starting salary of about $66,000.

Christopher C. Walthour Jr., formerly of North Huntingdon in Westmoreland County, died in August at age 86 and graduated from the law school in 1942.
The donation will allow the school to create two chairs in Walthour's name supporting high-level faculty members and part of the fund will be dedicated to student aid.
The law school's largest gift is $11 million from Meadville cable television magnate George J. Barco and his daughter, Yolanda G. Barco.

 Law school trims, expands - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
The law school plans to tighten enrollment standards and to reduce the number of law students from 640 this year to 600 next year, law school Dean Nick Cafardi said Tuesday.
Over at the University of Pittsburgh law school, admissions ballooned to 272 this year, up from about 250 the year before as the slowing economy prompted a surge in applicants, said Fredi Miller, the assistant dean for admissions and financial aid.
The school plans to tighten standards so that its students are averaging a 3.2 or 3.3 grade point average and rank in the top half of scores from the LSAT.

Retired Rear Admiral Donald J. Guter was named dean of Duquesne University Law School yesterday.
Guter, 56, a Latrobe native, returns to head the law school from which he graduated in 1977, Duquesne President Charles Dougherty said.
The University of Pittsburgh, meanwhile, is continuing its own search for a new law school dean.

 Russian Pilots Battle Shoot-First Law
You can bet Russian airline pilots are extra careful with their transponder settings these days after the government passed a law allowing hijacked aircraft to be shot down in the name of security.
Perhaps putting the law in context with Russian military action exhibited in recent bouts with terrorists, pilots have written President Vladimir Putin asking that the law be reconsidered.
According to The Jurist, a publication of the University of Pittsburgh's law school, the pilots believe they'd be under quite enough stress from the hijacking without having to worry about the good guys coming after them, too.
