Prince Edward Island (simply PEI or P.E.I.; French, l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard) is a Canadian province situated in the Maritimes.
In September 1864, Prince Edward Island hosted the Charlottetown Conference, which was the first meeting in the process leading to the Articles of Confederation and the creation of Canada in 1867.
Prince Edward Island's population remained stable but western expansion in Canada reduced its proportion of the nation's population.

Prince Edward Island (PEI or P.E.I. French: l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard; Scottish Gaelic: Eilean a’ Phrionns or Eilean Eòin; Míkmaq: Apekweit) is a Canadian province coextensive with the island of the same name.
The island's landscape is predominatly pastoral: rolling hills, pristine forests, white sand beaches, ocean coves and the famous red soil have given Prince Edward Island a reputation as a province of outstanding natural beauty.
The island has several nicknames: Epikwetk (Abegweit) which is a Míkmaq word meaning "Cradled in the Waves"; "Garden of the Gulf" referring to the pastoral scenery and lush agricultural lands throughout the province and finally "Birthplace of Confederation", referring to the Charlottetown Conference in 1864.

Non-denominational university established in 1969 by the amalgamation of Prince of Wales College, founded in 1834, and St Dunstan's U, founded in 1855.
One of the former, Carl B. Mathis, who became the conductor of the University Chorus and the Chamber Chorus in 1972, was chairman of the Prince Edward Island Council for the Arts in 1974.
William A. Bartlett was responsible for the university band 1972-7 and was succeeded in turn by Marc Apelstadt, Hubert Tersteeg, David Shephard, Eila Peterson, and Gregory Irvine.

Marathoners say goodbye to the Prince Edward Island National Park at 12 kilometers and head inland on Highway 6, traveling south into the community of Grand Tracadie.
The course takes the runners past the University of Prince Edward Island again (~1.8 km), where the runners then cross Belvedere Avenue and pass the Experimental Farm property on their left.
After crossing University Avenue (still on Belvedere Avenue ~0.23 km), the runners turn left at the entrance to the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI).
