It accordingly gladly surrendered Regina College to the University of Saskatchewan, although Regina College and its successor Regina Campus of the University of Saskatchewan and University of Regina have — possibly unawares — retained the Methodist motto "as one who serves" (Luke 22.27).
In 1974, the University of Regina was established as an institution independent of the University of Saskatchewan, although its development was slow until the 21st century, when a renewed burst of building and expansion occurred.
Being discussed in early 2006 was the construction of a multipurpose arena on the University of Regina campus.

Non-denominational university growing out of Regina College, which was founded in 1911 along with the Regina Conservatory of Music (later the Conservatory of Music, University of Regina).
In 1934 Regina College became part of the University of Saskatchewan and continued as a Junior College with a Conservatory of Music until 1959, when it received full degree granting status as a second campus of the University of Saskatchewan.
In 1961 the College was renamed the University of Saskatchewan, Regina Campus and in 1974 it became the independent University of Regina.

Originally located in the old Regina Hospital Building, it was later housed in a succession of campus buildings until Darke Hall, a music and arts building, was completed in 1929 and became home to the conservatory, whose faculty presented the first concert on 16 January.
The conservatory program grew over the years, and in 1963 additional space was provided in the new fine arts building of the Regina Campus, (in 1974 reconstituted as University of Regina).
