The University of Trieste (Italian Università degli Studi di Trieste, UNITS) is a medium-sized university in Trieste in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy.
The premises of the former psychiatric hospital, near the main campus, consisting in a number of small buildings immersed in the lush vegetation of Mount Valerio, are occupied by the Department of Geological Sciences and the Department of Earth Sciences.
The old and fascinating buildings of Via dell’Università and Via del Lazzaretto vecchio, in the heart of the city near the seafront, house the Faculty of Humanities and Philosophy, whereas the Faculty of Education is situated on the hill of San Vito.

In 1947, Trieste became an independent state as the Free Territory of Trieste and was governed for several years by Sir Terence Airey.

On November 25th, Roberto Car was awarded a doctor honoris causa degree in Physics from the University of Trieste.
It is being organized by his former students, Marjorie Langell, a 1979 Ph.D. recipient who is a professor of chemistry at the University of Nebraska, and Liang Chu, a 1990 Ph.D. recipient who is an associate professor of environmental health sciences at the State University of New York at Albany.

The two networks are built on seismic station subsystems transmitting in both real-time and dial-in/out modes of operation to the University of Trieste and OGS-CRS Data Centers where the Antelope data acquisition system software and SIS are located.

The cooperation concerns the following training curricula in physics of the University of Trieste: the “Laurea Magistralis in Fisica” with its training tracks in Condensed Matter Physics, Nuclear and Sub-Nuclear Physics, Theoretical Physics, Earth and Environmental Physics and the “Laurea Magistralis in Astrofisica e Fisica Spaziale”.
These two degrees called “Laurea Magistralis” can be compared to an advanced master in physics or in astrophysics in the Anglo-Saxon system or to the last two years of the New European Educational System as fixed by the Bologna-Sorbonne agreement among the European Ministers of Education in the mid nineties.
