Cardiff University is the top higher education institution in Wales according to a guide published on Sunday.
The three other academic centres outside of the University of Wales family - University of Glamorgan (93), Swansea Institute of Higher Education (114) and North East Wales Institute (117) - are seventh, eighth and ninth in the list.
At the bottom of the Welsh table is the University of Wales College, Newport, which has dropped nine places in the UK rankings from 110th in 2001 to 119th this year.

The NetWISE project will see students in the UWIC School of Applied Sciences and specially trained e-commerce officers in each LA auditing the practices of new and existing online trading businesses to ensure their compliance with the relevant legislation.
UWIC’s School of Applied Sciences offers the only consumer and trading standards degree programme in Wales.

The track cost £7M to build and was funded with the aid of a £5.6M grant from the Sports Council for Wales' SPORTLOT Fund.
The first meeting took place here on 23rd January 2000 and the track was officially opened on 27th January 2000 by Colin Jackson, Jamie Baulch and the Mayor of Cardiff.
