The University of Wales, Bangor (UWB) is a constituent institution of the University of Wales based in the city of Bangor in the county of Gwynedd in North Wales, United Kingdom.
UWB has been known at various times as the University College of North Wales (UCNW, in Welsh Coleg Prifysgol Gogledd Cymru) and University College, Bangor (UCB, Coleg y Brifysgol, Bangor) – not to be confused with the University College of Bangor (UCB), which is a campus of the University of Maine at Augusta.
In 1967, UWB was the venue for the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's lectures in Transcendental Meditation, at which The Beatles learnt of the death of their manager, Brian Epstein.

The senior Vice-Chancellor is Professor Antony Chapman, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff.
The University was composed of colleges until 1996, when the University was reorganised with a two-tier structure of member institutions in order to absorb the Cardiff Institute of Higher Education (which became the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC)) and the Gwent College of Higher Education (which became University of Wales College, Newport (UWCN)).

The University of Wales, Bangor has achieved a remarkable 52.3% increase in the value of research contracts won during the financial year 1 August 2003- 31 July 2004.
One of the grants and contracts awarded is a major grant from the Natural Environment Research Council awarded jointly to UWB and the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology for a flagship Environment Centre for Wales.
As well as increasing by nearly 27% the grants awarded to the University by UK Research Councils (the bodies who fund fundamental research in line with UK research strategy), there is a staggering increase of 509% in the value of contracts awarded by local authorities.
