Wisconsin has been one of the leading public universities in the United States since the beginning of the 20th century and ranks as one of the great research universities of the world.
Among U.S. universities, the University of Wisconsin is frequently listed as one of the "public Ivies"—publicly-funded universities providing a quality of education comparable to those of the Ivy League.

But in keeping true with the progressive nature of the University, one of the most heralded quotes at the university comes from a report issued by the Wisconsin Board of Regents in 1894 and embodied in a plaque placed on Bascom Hall from the class of 1910.
It is as follows: "Whatever may be the limitations which trammel inquiry elsewhere, we believe the great state University of Wisconsin should ever encourage that continual and fearless sifting and winnowing by which alone the truth can be found." [3]
In addition, there are more than 55,000 serial titles, 6.2 million microfilm items, and hundreds of thousands of government documents, maps, musical scores, audiovisual materials and other items housed in libraries across campus.

Tim Troy, ’85, associate professor of theatre arts and the J. Thomas and Julie Esch Hurvis Professor of Theatre and Drama, directs the play, which tells of the prisoners who prepared the first theatrical performance in Australia.
The concert, including an opening set by the Lawrence student group, the Denes, begins at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, May 14, in the Lawrence Memorial Chapel.
Richeson, a long-time percussionist with Allen's five-member band, will perform with Allen at the famed Joe's Pub at The Public Theater, one of NYC's most celebrated venues for live music.He also will perform with Allen at The Green Mill in Chicago on June 9-10.
