Begoña Pecharroman, studying Social Anthropology at the University of the Basque Country (Donosti) spent August and September 1994 in the Basque Studies Program researching her study of Basque women in the West to provide data on the settlement of sheepherders in the area.
William Douglass and Susan Parman of the University of California, Fullerton were co-organizers of the invited session “American Perspectives in the History of the Anthropology of Europe” at the American Anthropological Association annual meetings held in Atlanta last December.
Two doctoral students from the University of the Basque Country (UPV), Edurne Erkizia and Asier Sarasua, are currently studying at the University of Nevada as part of an exchange with the UPV that each year allows two students to come to Reno to engage in graduate studies.

The University of Deusto is one of the most distinguished and prestigious academic institutions in Spain, with campuses both in Bilbao and San Sebastián.
The Basque Institute of Physical Education (Soin Hezkuntzako Euskal Erakundea- Instituto Vasco de Educación Física) started to function at the beginning of the 1986-87 course in the institutional capital of the Basque Country.
It is a centre of higher university studies attatched to the Department of Culture of the Basque Government.

Decree 5168 created a university faculty in San Sebastian, which a decree of 27 July 1968 specified as a faculty of law, within the District of Valladolid, despite the fact that there were other preferable options, as the representatives of Gipuzkoa had already stated.
In the 1970s, Basque society, dissatisfied with the limitations of the arrangement and inspired by the movements of 1918, 1922 and 1936, pressed for a Basque university.
The university was comprised of the official university centres already in existence in the three provinces as well as an important number of university colleges that were established as attached centres.

A professor in the Anthropology Department of the University of the Basque Country, he is creating a bibliography on museums and also researching their relationship in the Basque region to identity and socio-economic development.
Alonso is from the Psychology Department of the University of the Basque Country in San Sebastián; Dr. Urizar is from the Department of Basque Philology in the same institution.

In the Basque case, we dare to say that the change has followed the same process that has happened in "underdeveloped" countries; a cultural jump without any evolution, causing at once a terrific uprooting, from forest shacks to apartments blocks.
The autochthonous Basque language, which had no written texts up to the fifteenth century and was not taught until the end of the twentieth century, has survived in a cultural bubble without adapting to the modern world.
The tragedy of the Basque Country, from this perspective, does not depend on political recognition; it depends on a type of cultural preservation which is independent of and prior to its autochthonous language.

In 1989, the Basque Studies Society of America named Douglass to the Basque Hall of Fame.
Douglass is currently an emeritus professor in the Center for Basque Studies at Nevada.
