Unterseeboot 96 (U-96) has been the designation of two submarines of the German Navy.
During World War I, U-96 was launched on February 15, 1917, and commissioned into the Kaiserliche Marine on April 11, 1917.
From his experiences, he wrote a short story, "Die Eichenlaubfahrt" ("The Oak-Leaves Patrol") and a novel which was to become an international best-seller,

West Virginia University at Parkersburg’s Humanities Division continues its Foreign Language Film Series with Wolfgant Peterssen’s "Das Unterseeboot (The Submarine)" on Friday, March 17, at 7 p.m.
The free presentation will be held in C102 in the Caperton Center for Applied Technology on the WVU Parkersburg campus.
Because of limited seating, those planning to attend are asked to pick up free tickets in the college’s Humanities Office.

Technically, this movie is very realistic; the actors were kept indoors during the filming of the movie giving the crew a real pale look that submarine crews were subject to being out to sea for lengthy periods of time.

Is there any difference between what the Germans call "ein Tauchboot" and their famous "Unterseeboote"?
As far as I have been able to check the first U-boote used a combination of elektro- and diesel-engines, were very slow, vulnerable and could make very short trips only.
But nowhere did I find a definition of when the Tauchboote became Unterseeboote.

I alredy own The Director's Cut on DVD, but I was still curious to take a look at this 282 minute version, since I like the film so much.
Captain Hans-Jürgen Hellriegel, (Jürgen Prochnow) commands German U-Boat 96, during World War II.
For him, this is a mission to defeat the enemy and bring glory to Germany.
