Unununium (short uuu) is a free operating system development project with the goal of creating a highly componentized graphical real-time operating system.
Unlike most operating system architectures in which applications can utilize existing shared libraries, Unununium's environment is built out of a hierarchy of components where each of them is designed for one specific task, like editing text input.
Unununium is designed from the ground up to be a graphical real-time operating system for the desktop.

Most current usage of the term "operating system" today, by both popular and professional sources, refers to all the software that is required in order for the user to manage the system and to run third-party application software for that system.
Mainframe operating systems, such as IBM's z/OS, and embedded operating systems such as QNX, eCos, and PalmOS, are usually unrelated to Unix and Windows, except Windows CE, Windows NT Embedded 4.0 and Windows XP Embedded which are related to Windows and several *BSDs and Linux distributions tailored for the requirements of an embedded system.
An operating system is conceptually broken into three sets of components: a user interface (which may consist of a GUI and/or a command line interpreter or "shell"), low-level system utilities, and a kernel--which is the heart of the operating system.

The Unununium, aka Uuu, "operating engine" is "a highly componentized system, where each component can be dynamically loaded, unloaded, replaced at runtime.
Written in assembly, it aims toward offering a no-kernel, SAS, real-time GUI-based system where components named cells are loaded in memory by a linker, which is then unloaded as the control is transferred to them.
An operating system offers an interface (GUI or CLI) to some of those services and also normally comes with a set of tools that allows you to use this system.

Unununium OS :: Introduction   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
Unununium is a an operating system, striving to create a better computing environment by maximizing interconnection between components.
Unununium was created in the belief that no currently available OS had the elegance of design required to realize the full potential of computers.
In all popular operating systems, the general environment is the same: a global and rather simple filesystem and a number of applications to manipulate these files.

As a basic component of an operating system, a kernel provides the lowest level of abstraction layer for the resources (especially memory, processors and I/O devices) that applications must control to perform their function.
Other systems (particularly on smaller, less powerful computers) may provide co-operative multitasking, where each process is allowed to run uninterrupted until it makes a special request that tells the kernel it may switch to another process.
QNX is a real-time operating system with a minimalistic microkernel design that has been developed since 1982, having been far more successful than Mach in achieving the goals of the microkernel paradigm.

 Kernel (computer science) (Linux Reviews)
In computing, the kernel is the central part in most computer operating systems which manages the system's resources and the communication between hardware and software components.
As a basic component of an operating system, a kernel provides abstraction layers for hardware, especially for memory, processors and I/O that allows hardware and software to communicate.
To perform, an operating system (OS) needs access to the peripherals connected to the computer, which are controlled through device drivers, which must be written by the developers and/or be provided by the manufacturers of the hardware.

 Python Operating System???
I recently came across a free operating system called Unununium (or something like that) and it was developed in Python and Assembly.
Now, I have been looking for a way to make an operating system for a long long time and the only possibilities I could find were C++ and assembly.
Unununium is still very early development, and it's going off in a quite interesting direction that is hardly standard.

An operating system usually segregates virtual memory into kernel space and user space.
In most operating systems, the kernel is never swapped out to disk.
Another approach has been proposed by the Unununium project which only uses a single address space, but the underlying programming language makes sure that arbitrary memory cannot be accessed.
