		I heard Ani Difranco’s newest CD up up up up up up for the first time at a small party, and it seemed to bring everyone down.
		up up up up up up is almost entirely socially concerned, rather than relationship based, which is different than her previous albums.
		A faster beat on a few of the songs would have jazzed up the overall tone, but, more importantly, it would’ve given the listener respite from the seriousness.

		On the brilliant night as they walk and talk, "the moon was so beautiful that the ocean held up a mirror." DiFranco's imagery and focus are still as sharp as when she writes in turmoil even if the emotional impact to the listener isn't as strong.
		Up Up Up Up Up Up is nearly flacid.

		“Up Up Up Up Up Up” (6up) is in my opinion, Ani Difranco’s most mature album to date.
		While the last album was very up beat, this album goes in more of a folk-jazz direction.
		It’s the closest approaching of her live sound in the studio, which to me says a lot because she is such a tremendous live performer.

		None of the 11 songs on Up Up Up Up Up are very radio-friendly, but for those who like a little more sophistication than the aforementioned whiney-flowery pop has to offer, Ani DiFranco delivers once again.
		The banjo and harmonica driven "Angry Anymore" is the most accessible song here, in which DiFranco makes peace with her childhood demons.
		Overall, the album has a darker and more confusing tone than its predecessor, last year's Little Plastic Castle, and it may be slightly weaker in terms of songcraft, but it may also just take longer to grow on the average listener, and a weak album for Ani DiFranco is a masterpiece for most.

		There were only a few seeds in it and we named them "I Used to Know Her" and "No Doubt." Heads are no longer bobbin up and down now, instead all (with the exception of mine) are in full recline with caps pulled down snuggly to shade the eyes from late afternoon sun.
		This is a follow up to the 1997 10" release on White Jazz Records/House of Kicks called Respect the Rock.
		It's a siren call that breaks new ground while seeming to be an old friend at the same time, achieving a sense of timeless immediacy with its historical resonance.
