Flinders Street Railway Station stands at the corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets Melbourne and is the oldest city station in Australia, built in 1854.
Flinders Street Station is the busiest suburban railway Station in the southern hemisphere even after the completion of the city loop railway subway with three stations in a subway and linking Spencer street to suburban train trips.
Once the railway line was extended under the street to join the two, Princes Bridge slowly became amalgamated into Flinders Street.

The Upfield railway line is a suburban electric railway in the northern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia.
The future of the Upfield line was in serious doubt in the late 1980s and early 1990s with proposals for the line to be converted into a light rail line or even closed.
The line from North Melbourne to Coburg opened in September 1884, and in October 1889 it was extended to Somerton.

The Upfield Bike path extends from Merlynston Station at Boundary Rd to Parks St Parkville and is used by hundreds as a safe easy route for commuting to the city.
As it runs along next to the Upfield train line it is perfect for small child on there first solo rides, if they get to tired everyone can travel home on the train.
Many parts of the path are lined by factory walls; Brunswick is still one of the few inner city localities that accommodate industry.

It is a shared use path for cyclists and pedestrians which follows the Upfield railway line and stretches from Princes Park, through Brunswick and Coburg, to Fawkner.
The southern end of the Upfield Bike Path connects to the Capital City Trail on the old inner circle railway line reservation which provides access to the Merri Creek Trail at Rushall railway station; and in the other direction it passes near the Royal Melbourne Zoological Gardens to connect with the Moonee Ponds Creek Trail.
The Upfield path parallels Sydney Road shopping strip in Brunswick and Coburg, and is often used by pedestrians and cyclists for shopping, dog walking as well as commuter cycling.

I recently heard an Upfield line worker tell how her mother-in-law in the 1920s expected to be retrenched in order to close the line.
It is in fact the original railway line to Sydney, and although it is electrified only as far as Upfield, the line itself continues on to the new satellite fringe suburbs of Roxburgh Park and Craigieburn.
If this upgrade is not carried out, a worker on the line could be telling of previous attempts to close it down to the campaigners wanting to save the Upfield line in the year 2020.

This morning I announced that the Victorian Government would be spending $375,000 to install traffic signals on Dawson Street and Park Street for the Upfield Shared Bike Pathway.

I use the Upfield corridor most days of the week - whether its to ride to work or catch the train.

The current and the old are in separate folders, so that each can be turned on/off, as can be done with the individual lines of the railway network.
This would mean that Melbourne used to have an inner city loop, many years before we got the City Loop (underground and under only the CBD).
I don't have GEpro, so I'm drawing the lines using some C++ code to read and interpret a set of 'turtle math' like parameters, and generate the additional KML code to 'construct' the railway tracks.

 Man accused of train rape refused bail
Leon Smith, whose address cannot be identified, is charged with the rape and indecent assault of a 20-year-old woman between McCauley and North Melbourne Railway stations early on December 29 last year.
He faced Melbourne Magistrates' Court where his bail application was refused.
Detective Senior Constable David Twaits (Twaits) told the court the victim was tired and intoxicated after a night out in the city when she boarded a train and fell asleep on the Upfield line at Flinders Street Station just before 9am.

A MELBOURNE youth will be charged on summons with possessing an imitation pistol after a disturbance on a suburban train overnight.
The youth, aged 16, was arrested at McCaulay railway station in North Melbourne after police were called about 11.50pm (AEST) to investigate reports a person in the last carriage of the Upfield-bound train was brandishing a firearm.
A Victoria Police spokesman said the train driver was aware of the disturbance and held it at the station until police arrived.

That's also including Pakenham, Cranbourne and Frankston lines on weekdays prior to and straight after Queen's Birthday Holiday long weekend in June (remaining Melbourne metropolitan railway lines, Epping, Hurstbridge, Lilydale, Belgrave, Alamein, Glen Waverley and Sandringham lines aren't affected by closure of Spencer Street).
It is suggested you alight from your train at Flagstaff (platform 3) and catch a train to Spencer Street departing Flagstaff on platform 4.

 Merri Creek Trail/Coburg Lake/Moonee Ponds Trail
We only were unsure about the path at one point, where it said shared footway up to the right, and no other sign, but we decided that we would go straight ahead, which is the right way, and ended in a huge downhill.........
if in doubt, go straight ahead (and down the hill!) We passed the path which goes beside the Upfield Railway Line, which Pandora used to use to commute from Brunswick to Melbourne University, which is a handy route, but not all that pretty.
At the railway station, continue _up_ the hill with the Zoo on your right, on the footpath but following the road.

Baggage handlers at Melbourne Airport stopped work and in-coming flights were put in holding patterns away from the storm.
Outside Melbourne a tornado swirled between Horsham and the Grampians.
There wasn't much in the lightning department surprising considering the frequency of the static on the radio just before the t'storm, however we have a tin patio roof, so any thunder is sometimes difficult to hear unless it's very close.
