Her political emphasis is on law and order, which she made the key issue of her successful election campaign.
As an Essex councillor, she was a signatory to a letter applauding the Royal Ulster Constabulary's record and deploring its reorganisation in the last parliament.
She started her career as a banker in the 1960s, but after a career break to have children, worked at a special school for the physically handicapped, where she ran the riding group and latterly worked as a local government officer.

This is a list of the 646 constituencies currently represented in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom Parliament, as at the 2005 general election.
Constituency boundaries are subject to regular review by an independent Boundary Commission, usually once every 10 to 15 years, to keep the electorate of each constituency as close to the national average as is reasonably possible.
Most of the current constituency boundaries were last reviewed in the early 1990s, and are therefore based on administrative boundaries prior to the last series of local government boundary changes.

Boundary Commission, usually once every 10 to 15 years, to keep the electorate of each constituency as close to the national average as is reasonably possible.
Northern Ireland is reviewed as a whole, and constituency boundaries may cross all district borders.
For example, if two adjacent areas are entitled to 1.5 constituencies each, they may be combined together and awarded three constituencies, rather than having two constituencies each, all of which would be well below the average constituency electorate.

Upminster Court still is the largest and only example of a manor house built from local bricks, produced not a quarter of a mile away from where the brick earths were dug.
The architect of Upminster Court, Sir Charles Reilly also developed the plans for housing to accommodate the newly required workforce, and as most of them had come from the countryside, he planned small green grassed areas, (known later as ‘Reilly Greens’) to help them feel at home, so the village green was not far away.
