The new bridge was twice the width of its predecessor and had a time capsule of local documents and publications sealed into the foundations, seven feet below the road surface.
The stadium has athletics facilities and is home to AFC Hornchurch, known until the recent collapse of their sponsor as the ‘Chelsea of non-league football’.
Upminster Bridge is possibly the dullest structure in London to have a station named after it

The original Upminster Bridge was a small crossing over the River Ingrebourne used by carters from the outlying farms in Upminster carrying goods to Hornchurch in the Royal Liberty of Havering, of which the river and bridge marked the eastern boundary.
Upminster Bridge is served by the following Transport for London contracted London Bus routes: 193, 248, 370, 373.

The main route now known as St Mary's Lane, but previously called Hornchurch Road or Upminster Hill, is the eastwards continuation of the road from Ilford.
The term Upminster Bridge refers to the bridge over the River Ingrebourne, rather than the bridge over the railway which can be seen in this photograph.
The Bridge House Inn still remains, although it was renamed the Hungry Horse for a short period, before reverting to its historic name.

The bridge was again a target in 1996, when a large bomb was planted under the bridge, but failed to detonate.
More recently, the bridge was again attacked in 2000, when a bomb exploded damaging one of the girders and was closed for a while for repairs, but is now fully open again.
Barnes Bridge station is at the top of the bridge and can be reached from the steps up onto the bridge from the other side of the road.

The costs associated with the construction of the tunnels and the bridge have long since been repaid and it was on this basis that tolls were first introduced.
This development is wholly inappropriate for a field on the boundary between residential and rural Upminster, which were it not for the illegal erection of a barn some years ago, would have remained agricultural Green Belt.
The CURE (Committee for the Regeneration of Upminster) group has existed for a number of years and will certainly be focusing on the benefits that can be derived from this exciting redevelopment.

The club were quickly elected to the Romford League and won the Second Division Championship in their first season.

Close to the start of the walk, suburbia of Harold Hill, once across this road we are about to duck into the undergrowth on the right of the picture...
The bridge over the river has an unusual arrangement at the west end, with the perfectly functional steps blocked by a double piece of wood, and then a stile built to get the walker over the wood blocking the steps!
Don't get me wrong: this isn't anything to compare with a grand walk in the Lake District, but for a few hours on a Sunday when there isn't time to be somewhere more exciting, it was a pleasant amble.

By the time I leave Earls Court the Central Public Address System is announcing the suspension due to 'passenger action' in the Hornchurch area.
Edgware Road trains are to reverse at Putney Bridge and all D Stock trains are to reverse at Parsons Green.
