  Havering - Upminster Windmill: A History
The windmill was built in 1803 by local farmer James Noakes, Upminster Windmill continued to grind wheat and produce flour until 1934.
The windmill exchanged hands again in 1857 when Thomas Abraham, who had worked as a foreman for Thomas Noakes, bought the mill and its immediate surrounding land for £1100, being unable to raise the £1900 for the entire estate.
In 1937 the Windmill was purchased by Essex County Council with the intention of demolishing it.

Upminster is a chiefly residential district and consists of mainly Victorian and Edwardian housing laid out on wide leafy roads with several parks and open spaces, a golf course, pitch 'n' putt course, tennis clubs and a bowling green.
Upminster is more widely known for being the eastern terminus of the District Line and the location of a London Underground depot at Cranham.
Upminster is also the home of the Travel Club of Upminster, one of Britain's oldest tour operators founded in 1936 by Harry Chandler.

 History
Upminster Windmill is considered to be one of the finest examples of a “Smock” windmill remaining in England.
A section of one of the main timbers (known as ‘cant’ posts) which support the weight of the cap and sails and also the intermediate floors with their machinery was replaced at the same time.
The Windmill Sub-Committee have kept a watch on the condition of the Mill and in 1995, with the help of experienced friends, they carried out a survey of the Mill.

 Havering - Amateur Radio at Upminster Windmill
Havering and District Amateur radio club will be demonstrating amateur radio at the Upminster windmill on the 12th and 13th May.
The event forms part of the National windmills open day, the windmill will be open to the public for tours and information.
