New Georgia Encyclopedia: Lachlan McGillivray (1719-1799)
Lachlan McGillivray's American career coincided with Georgia's colonial period and provides a guide to Georgia's progress from one of dependence upon the Board of Trustees to self-government, and from a simple society to a more complex plantation society.
Born in Strathnairn, in Invernesshire, Scotland, in 1719, McGillivray belonged to the ancient Clan Chattan, traditionally headed by the McIntoshes.
McGillivray achieved enormous influence as a trader among the Upper Creeks, as his partner, George Galphin, did among the Lower Creeks along the Chattahoochee River.

We have used early Miocene valley-filling basalts to reconstruct fluvial long profiles in the Upper Lachlan catchment, SE Australia, in order to use these as well-constrained initial conditions in a forward model of fluvial incision.
Many different fluvial incision algorithms have been proposed, and it is not clear at present which one of these best captures the behavior of bedrock rivers.

In addition, the contact between the Lachlan and Thomson orogens and the New England Orogen changes in character from north to south.
This observation implies that the boundary between the accretionary wedge and forearc strata is a weak detachment surface, perhaps a pre-existing fault.
The southern profile shows a similar structure to that apparent in the middle profile, with part of the NEO thrust over the Lachlan Orogen and with a small volume of material in the Tamworth belt (forearc basin strata) detached from the undergoing thrust plate and deformed by backthrusting.
