The balloon, as in the case of the small one of the same kind previously launched from the Champ de Mars, was constructed by the brothers Robert, one of whom took part in the ascent.
It was 27 ft. in diameter, and the car was suspended from a hoop surrounding the middle of the balloon, and fastened to a net, which covered the upper hemisphere.
After the first journey the balloon descended at Greenwich, and after the second at Walthamstow, where it was injured by being blown against a tree.

His grandfather was a respected tradesman in Worcester, and his father, who was born in that town in 1797, came up to London in 1820, and entered the office of a firm of discount brokers, in which he afterwards assumed a partnership.
In his thirteenth year his father died, leaving the family well-to-do; the home at Woodford was broken up, as being unnecessarily large; and in 1848 William Morris went to Marlborough, where his father had bought him a nomination.
In 1872 appeared Love is Enough, structurally the most elaborate of his poems for its combination of the epic and dramatic spirits; and in the autumn he began to translate the shorter Icelandic sagas, to which his enthusiasm had been directed by two inspiring journeys to Iceland.

The reason for this is that the section of the route between Whipps Cross and Upper Walthamstow is dogged by narrow roads, parked cars and overhanging trees.
So, late in 1996, this section of the 230 was taken off, and diverted to Upper Walthamstow, giving this area a bus for the first time.
Unfortunately these have to be curtailed at Whipps Cross as the Upper Walthamstow area is inaccessible to the larger buses.
