Before the Swedish group was Entombed, group members Alex Hellid (guitar) and Nicke Andersson (drums) anchored the band Nihilist, with L.G. Petrov (vocals) and Uffe Cederlund (guitar) in and out of the band for a period of two years.
Soon, the group was in the studio recording their Clandestine album, with Andersson handling the vocals for the ousted Säfström, which were attributed to Johnny Dordevic in the album's liner notes even though he didn't sing a single song.
Ironically, just as Entombed had been crowned as the kings of death metal, these two releases in 1993 found them blatantly moving away from death metal's traditional conventions; their riffs were noticeably slowed down, the vocals were actually coherent, and the song structures were simplified into verse-chorus-verse arrangements.

Continuing their reputation as one of the hardest working bands in rock, the album was recorded and mixed in only 18 days."Uprising"´s release in March 2000 was greeted with a phenomenal reception from both fans and critics.
A review in Sweden´s Expression newspaper stated that the album was "Super good, as ever." while Kerrang declared "If ever there was an album that should come with a government health warning, ´Uprising´ is it." The band supported Iron Maiden throughout Canada and Europe, as well as embarking on their own shows.
The album was released in November 2002 and was entitled ´Sons Of Satan, Praise The Lord´.

Few bands can claim to have created a new style of music, Entombed have not just accomplished that, but they are still the leaders in their field of extreme rock n' roll.
Their first three albums were all released on a small British independent record label and while they all were influential at the time of their release, only the last of the three, 'Wolverine Blues', showed any real promise.
This album was quite a departure from the previous one, but didn't change Entombed's status as the most exciting band from their homeland and leaders of Rot N' Roll.

At the end of the 12 tracks that constitute the album (the U.S. release includes three bonus tracks), the album seems diverse in terms of songwriting yet a bit monotonous in terms of tone, which is one of the album's weaknesses.
Very infrequently does Uprising hit any lulls or go off on any tangents; it's apparent that the songs were written by guitarists, as dueling riffs and brief solos dominate the album.
In a way, Uprising could be the group's most accomplished album to date, but its inaccessibility makes the album as difficult to champion with open arms as Wolverine Blues.

The problem with Entombed’s about-face is that it ultimately doesn’t feel genuine and, furthermore, the songwriting severely lacks the gusto of even To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth, an album many feel (not including myself) is the pinnacle of rock-infused death.
Entombed’s seventh album, Morning Star, shows a marked improvement in both the songwriting (half the album) and conviction (the whole album) departments.
The bar of quality continues to slide against Entombed as the album progresses on “Bringer of Light.” The song’s immediate hooks and vocal phrasing are hard to forget, but halfway through Entombed’s impressive rhythmic pulse gets bogged down with insipid simplicity and ineffective bridges between licks (anyone remember Vermin?).

An explosive backlash called Uprising was devilishly conceived and then eventually born, punching, kicking, unsteady, unpredictable and overwhelmingly death rocking, slammed together over four weekends, not so much produced as barely contained.
Uprising is a reaction, a call to action, but it is also the product of a band that sees the irony of being the best, and possibly the only, death 'n' roll band on the planet.
And it is the merciless attack and recoil of Uprising's novel recording process that serves as the ultimate metaphor for Entombed's magic.

By 1993's Wolverine Blues, Entombed had strayed far from the confines of typical death-metal formula, having morphed into a style the members describe as "death and roll." As a result, fans are never sure what's going to come next, a situation that fosters both curiosity and unease.
The rest of Entombed remains on good terms with Andersson, who went on to share a practice space with them as part of his new outfit, rock-and-roll revivalists the Hellacopters (where he goes by the name Nick Royal).
Interestingly, one drawback to Entombed's lyrical approach is that it's very difficult to get a sense of place or culture from their music.
