Chalvey was a village on an island in the marshy flood plain.
The population expanded rapidly in the mid 19th Century, and Slough with Upton became an Urban District in 1894.

Most of the area was traditionally part of Buckinghamshire and formed over many years by the amalgamation of villages along the Great West Road between London and Bath and Bristol.
The arrival of the railway in 1840, the Grand Junction Canal in 1882, and, during the mid to late 1800s, the arrival of the brickmaking industry into Langley and the area north of the Great West Road, saw dramatic growth northwards encroaching on the very south of the parish of Stoke Poges.

Their son William bpt in Aston Rowant in 1741 married Mary House in 1768 and later Susannah Humphreys in 1781, they had 13 children all born in Upton Cum Chalvey.
Mary died in 1776 and Susannah in1816 with William buried in Upton Cum Chalvey BKM in 1818.
The line continues through William bpt in 1797 Upton Cum Chalvey, who married Mary Ann Mosely in Mortlake SRY in 1823.

 A General History of the Springbatts - Springford & Springbett Family History Site
They were William and his wife Hannah Rose and their children: John 1773, Martha 1774, Richard 1776, Elizabeth 1778, William 1780 and finally Hannah 1786.
John completely vanishes without trace but could well be the John Springford who lived in Upton Cum Chalvey near Eton Berks and died in December 1849 at Slough.
Richard married Mary Fowle in 1806 and lived and died at Allington seemingly without offspring.
