UPUAUT was fitted with a camera and placed into one of the "ventilation" shafts in the King's Chamber.
UPUAUT 2's camera beamed back a tantalizing image of a crack at the bottom of the probable sliding door showing that something was on the other side.
UPUAUT 2 indicated that the two shafts in the Queen's Chamber were aligned to the stars Sirius and one of the stars of Ursa Minor (The Little Dipper).

Upuaut, the Opener ot the Path, was the god of Lycopolis.
To behold the beauty of Upuaut was the dying wish many Egyptians inscribed on their tombstones.
This priest, they say, with his eyes bound up is led by two wolves to the temple of Demeter, which is distant from the city twenty furlongs, and then afterwards the wolves lead him back again from the temple to the same spot.

Anubis as Upuaut, the "Opener of the Ways", may be so called because he sits at the prow of the celestial barque, cutting through the waters of the night.
Upuaut was originally Up-Uat, meaning Opener of the Waters, the Uat being the waters, the well-watered field, the marsh, the field of reeds, the oasis, the land of plenty, the Elysian fields of the afterlife, all metaphors of the starry sky.
Specifically, the watery fields were that part of the sky that was permanent, the circumpolar stars.

 UPUAUT
"Upuaut" or "opener of the ways" in Ancient Egyptian was one of two jackal gods - Anubis and Wepwawet (Upuaut).
The recent discovery of a portcullis door in the southern shaft of the Queen's Chamber in the Great Pyramid of Giza by a German team led by Rudolf Gantenbrink was made possible by the small remote controlled robot aptly named UPUAUT 2.

Upuaut had long since grown tired of the mortals fascination with naming things that would blink out of existance in a scant few millenia, but a moment in the time Upuaut and his masters had stalked the known universe.
Upuaut had his command; more life force for his masters; more specimens for his masters to determine the best way to drain the last drop of the ancient enemies influence from the galaxy.

The northern shaft is aligned to the circumpolar constellation Ursa Minor associated with Upuaut (a jackal- headed neter known as "the Opener of the Ways" and Horus, the falcon headed neter who is the son of Isis and Osiris).
Therefore, this chamber gives rise to the concept of birth especially in relation to "spiritual birth." In some religions, formal purification rites are enacted on behalf of the spiritual disciple resulting in a renewal of the pure heart-mind.

 The Pyramid Door
Not only had the robot proved that the shaft was very much longer than previously thought (itself an important discovery which disproved the "abandonment" theory for the Queen's Chamber) but a camera on board had taken pictures of what lay at the other end of the shaft.
As it is recognised that this tool was made in the shape of the Little Bear constellation, itself associated with the jackal god called Upuaut (whose name means "opener of the ways" and after whom Gantenbrink's robot was named) it is not unreasonable to see this as a stellar ritual.
Further evidence for this is that the Northern shaft of the Queen's chamber pointed at the culmination of the star Kochab, the most prominent in the Little Bear constellation.

 Wepwawet
Wepwawet (Upuaut, Wep-wawet, and Ophois) was an ancient canine god whose worship originated in Upper Egypt.
More recently, his name (Upuaut) was given highly appropriately to the tiny robot used to investigate the "air shafts" in the Great Pyramid.
To complicate matters further, Wepwawet was sometimes called the "son of Isis" and identified as Horus (and therefore the pharaoh) although she was also seen as the grand-daughter of Shu and the step-mother of Anubis according to the Heliopolitan tradition.

Wepwawet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For the Great Pyramid exploration project, see The Upuaut Project.
In Egyptian mythology, Wepwawet (also spelt Upuaut, Wep-wawet, and Ophois) was originally a war god, whose cult centre was Lycopolis, in Upper Egypt.
In particular Wepwawet was seen as a scout, going out to clear routes for the army to proceed forward, thus his name, which means opener of the ways, indeed, Wepwawet is depicted on the shedshed, a standard that led armies to battle.

 THE MYSTERY OF THE SHAFTS
The robot could not go all the way up the northern shaft because of a bend formed to bypass the Grand Gallery, but in the southern shaft it was able to reach the end of it.
As far as the shafts are concerned, there is still an unexplored part of the pyramid that could yield some more information: the upper part of the lower northern shaft, which Upuaut was unable to reach in 1993.
The exploration of this last unexplored corner of the Great Pyramid would certainly be fruitful, as it would allow comparisons with the southern lower shaft.

It was not unusual in ancient Egypt for more then one god to take the same form, with similar functions as another god.
Wepwawet (Ophios, Upuaut), called the son of Isis, was one of several Egyptian deities to take the form of a canine, today often incorrectly identified as a wolf.
Egyptologists now believe that he was more likely associated with the jackal, though he is often depicted with a gray or white head.
