Uranian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Uranian is a nineteenth century term that referred to a person of a third sex — originally, someone with "a female psyche in a male body" who is sexually attracted to men, and later extended to cover homosexual gender variant females, and a number of other sexual types.
The term "uranian" was quickly adopted by English-language advocates of homosexual emancipation in the Victorian era, such as Edward Carpenter and John Addington Symonds, who used it to describe a comradely love that would bring about true democracy, uniting the "estranged ranks of society" and breaking down class and gender barriers.
Another account has Aphrodite as the daughter of Zeus and Dione, and this Aphrodite is associated with a common love which "is apt to be of women as well as of youths, and is of the body rather than of the soul".

The Uranians were a small and somewhat clandestine group of pederastic poets (many of whom were university graduates of Oxford or Cambridge) in England who wrote between 1870 and 1930.

Poetry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Poetry (from the Greek "ποίησις," poesis—a "making" or "creating") is a form of art in which language is used for its aesthetic qualities in addition to, or in lieu of, its ostensible meaning.
Later poets and aestheticians often distinguished poetry from, and defined it in opposition to, prose, which was generally understood as writing with a proclivity to logical explication and a linear narrative structure.
The rejection of traditional forms and structures for poetry that began in the first half of the twentieth century, coincided with a questioning of the purpose and meaning of traditional definitions of poetry and of distinctions between poetry and prose.

L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E poetry emphasizes the reader's role in bringing meaning out of a work and came about, at least in part, in response to the sometimes uncritical use of expressive lyric sentiment among earlier poetry movements to which the Language poets felt a kinship.
On the West Coast, an early seed of language poetry was the launch of This magazine, edited by Robert Grenier and Watten, in 1971.
However, it was equally the range of contemporary poetries that focused on "language" in This, Tottel's, L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E, and also in several other key publications and essays of the time, rather than a single declarative sentence, that established the field of discussion that would emerge as Language (or L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E) poetry.

Modernist poetry refers specifically to poetry written between 1890 and 1970 in the tradition of modernist literature.
Through much of the post-renaissance, poetry in the major European languages had focused on development of large scale prosodic structure, reference and ornament, in a tradition that was seen as stretching back to the works of Dante Alighieri and Petrarch.
By the 19th century a large range of established forms and norms had been established in French, English, German, Italian, Spanish and Russian, and these norms were the standard against which new works were judged.

"Uranian" was a British derivation from "Urning," a word invented by German jurist Karl Heinrich Ulrichs in the 1860s.
The term "Uranian" was eventually replaced in popular usage with terms such as "invert" and "homosexual." The brief flowering of Uranianism among turn-of-the-century intellectuals in Britain can be interpreted in part as an early modern attempt to define gay identity and link it with a forward-thinking social philosophy.
The Uranian poets, who lived and wrote from the close of the Victorian era to the middle of the interwar period, celebrated love for adolescent boys.

Although these poets had effectively been written out of official histories of 20th century British poetry, by the beginning of the 1960s a number of younger poets were starting to explore poetic possibilities that the older writers had opened up.

His abilities at watercolors, piano, poetry, and recitation were notable from a young age, but above all other pursuits he dedicated himself to ill health, complaining constantly of melancholy and frequently driving himself into extravagant moods and fits.
Snooping in his uncle's room, he discovered a cache of Uranian literature: poetry and prose devoted to the homosexual adoration of boys and young men.
Catching on, Elijah took note of some of the poetry and made a few subtle references to these works in his own efforts at verse, which he recited for company.
