Uranium Glass from the Glass Encyclopedia
During the latter part of the 19th century, glass containing uranium was made with heat sensitive chemicals which turned milky white when reheated, producing a shading effect from yellow to milky white at the edges.
This kind of glass is often called vaseline glass today, because of its similarity to the ointment of that name (which used to be a yellowy colour).
The description "uranium glass" is disliked by some glass collectors, especially in the USA, where the term "vaseline glass" is used to cover any kind of yellow or green glass which glows under ultra-violet light.

The Glass Association - Uranium Glass
With regard to uranium he states: “Its oxides impart bright colours to glass, which are, according to the proportions, brown, apple green, or emerald green”.
From all this we conclude that the colouring properties of uranium were known early in the 19th century, but it was not until the second quarter of the century that it was marketed.
The most likely explanation is that various scientists and glassmakers explored the use of uranium in the early part of the 19th century, and that during the second quarter of the century some items made from coloured uranium glass were being produced for sale.

Uranium (fluorescent) and Vaseline Glass article from the Virtual Glass Museum
When added to a glass mixture with a very high lead content (over 70% lead oxide) it produces a deep red colour (not a practical commercial proposition, however).
During the latter part of the 19th century, some glass with uranium was made with heat sensitive chemicals which turned milky white when reheated, producing a shading effect from yellow to milky white at the edges.
This kind of glass is often called "vaseline glass" today, because of its similarity to the ointment of that name (which used to be a yellowy colour, but nowadays is more or less white, just to confuse the glass collectors).

 What is Vaseline Glass-Uranium Glass
Vaseline Glass is a particular color of yellow-green glass that is made by adding 2% Uranium Dioxide to the ingredients when the glass formula is made.
When manganese is added to the glass formula (which also makes a yellow-colored glass) instead of Uranium Dioxide, for instance, the end product will glow under a fl light, but the color is an orange/peach color OR a lime green color that is much fainter than the bright neon green under UV light.
Vaseline Glass is not harmful, as the emissions from the glass are just slightly stronger than normal background radiation that we are all exposed to on a daily basis.
