Urasenke La Salle was founded by the late Brother Joseph Keenan (1932-1999), a member of the Christian Brothers Catholic teaching order and a professor at La Salle University.
Brother Keenan proposed opening a branch of the Urasenke school at La Salle, and was granted the use of an unused farmhouse, part of the historic estate that the campus is located on.
Urasenke is one of about 10 different tea schools active in Japan today.

Zabosai Genmoku Soshi Soshitsu XVI, son of Genshitsu, assumed leadership of the Urasenke Tradition of Chanoyu in December, 2002.

Lined kimono are worn by both men and women in the winter months, and unlined ones in the summer.

Dr Hounsai Genshitsu Sen, Grand Master of the Urasenke Chado, or "the way of tea” lectured to an audience of about 300 on the philosophy of the tea ceremony on Sunday 10 September at the National Gallery of Australia.
After his lecture, a tea demonstration by Urasenke staff followed, which was accompanied by Dr Sen’s explanation of each movement in the tea ceremony.

My first experience into this peaceful world of tea was a visit to the Urasenke Foundation Center in Los Angeles where I observed a class in chanoyu, one of several tea schools in the Japanese culture.
