There they spun the web of life and watered the World Tree from their Holy spring, the Urdarbrunnr.
Thread coiled around her feet, becoming knotted and dirty, then wound around the tree Yggdrasill, looping through its branches and getting caught in its leaves and on its tiniest twigs.
Finally the thread began to clog the Urdarbrunnr, the holy well at the foot of the ash tree.

The root that reached the heaven (Asgard) was called Weird's Well, which was a holy well, where the gods often held court.
The Weird's Well was known by another name, Urdarbrunnr or "Well of Urda", because it was the well which the Norns were its guardians.
The root that extended over the frost giants' world was a well that was called Mímisbrunnr or "Mimir's Well", because it was guarded by Mimir.

Myth*ing Links: The Norns & Nuremberg
They lived in a womblike cave under Yggdrasill, the great ash that was the World Tree.
Near their cave was the cosmic wellspring of life, destiny, and justice -- Urdarbrunnr, the "Well of Urd." To preserve the life of the World Tree, the Norns annointed it daily with white clay from the spring and gave it pure, shining water from the well.
This water later fell back to earth as dew -- when harts (deer) grazed on the dew-moist branches, their milk turned to honeyed mead, the elixir of life, which feeds the gods and warriors of Valhalla.

In "Myth and religion of the north" by Turville-Petre on page 246 the author is discussing the temple in Uppsala and states:
"The sacred well is reminiscent of the mystical Urdarbrunnr (Well of Fate), in which Odinn sacrificed his eye, and of that beside the temple of Fosite on the Frisian island.
The man drowning in the well may remind us of the slaves drowning after washing Nerthus." (on the previous page the author mentioned Adam of Bremen remarking how a living man was plunged into the well as a sacrifice)
