| | Urokinase (Abbokinase) |
 | | Urokinase was developed in the 1950’s due to severe febrile reactions associated with the first thrombolytic agent, streptokinase. |
 | | Intravenous urokinase is rapidly cleared by the liver with small fractions excreted in the bile and urine. |
 | | Urokinase is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the product, active internal bleeding, recent cerebrovascular accident, recent intracranial or intraspinal surgery, recent trauma including cardiopulmonary resuscitation, intracranial neoplasm, arteriovenous malformation or aneurysm, known bleeding diatheses, and severe uncontrolled arterial hypertension. |
