Ursus arctos includes four main subspecies: Ursus arctos horriblis (Grizzly Bear), Ursus arctos middendorffi (Brown Bears of the Alaskan Islands of Afrogak, Shoyak, and Kodiak), and Ursus arctos arctos (European Brown Bear), and Ursus arctos yesoensis (Japanese Brown Bear).
Ursus arctos is not known to attack animals larger than it for food, rather, they usually attack only if they feel threatened (4).
Ursus arctos tends to migrate to the mountains in the summertime to stay cool in its environment, and captivity might not be able to provide the diverse habitat requirements (9).
