  Modelling the information user
Information systems that fail to provide access to external electronic information sources and that enable some intelligent filtering of that information will be less than fully useful at the executive level.
A model of the user, therefore, must begin with a model of the organization in which the user works, and with an understanding of the various organizational and interpersonal influences that may affect his or her information-seeking behaviour.
A user model, therefore, must be an organizational model, not a systems model, or an individual model and, in particular, a limited, system perspective of the information user in the organization will not provide a sound basis for the development of future, usable information systems.

Internetworking (3.3): Article-Designing for Information Foragers
Users must be able to interact naturally and intuitively with a system in order to meet their individual needs (Bates, 1990; Belkin, 1993).
It is important to note that foraging for information does not equate to aimless "surfing." Foraging refers to the variety of strategies seekers exhibit in their quest for information and how humans adapt to their environments on a situational basis.
User must be able to properly interact and negotiate with systems in order to meet their information needs (Bates 1990, Belkin, 1990).

User-Centered Push Approach to Timely Information Delivery
In standard models of push, a central service delivers information to a user when information in the world changes, and the type of information delivered depends on general categories of interest often set directly by the user.
Although it is obvious that the user should be updated when the relevant state of the world changes, we believe it is equally obvious that users' interests are not nearly as stable as current approaches to push assume.
Because UCP bases users' information needs on a dynamic model of user interests, it has a good chance of delivering information to the user that is both timely and relevant.

Information retrieval - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Information retrieval (IR) is the science of searching for information in documents, searching for documents themselves, searching for metadata which describe documents, or searching within databases, whether relational stand-alone databases or hypertext networked databases such as the Internet or World Wide Web or intranets, for text, sound, images or data.
There is a common confusion, however, between data retrieval, document retrieval, information retrieval, and text retrieval, and each of these has its own bodies of literature, theory, praxis and technologies.
The aim of this was to look into the information retrieval community by supplying the infrastructure that was needed for such a huge evaluation of text retrieval methodologies.
