Do mapping by first mapping upper 19 bits of virtual address plus 6 bit process id to a physical page frame, then using lower 12 bits of virtual address as offset within the physical page frame.
Specification of mapping process: must map 31 bit virtual address (top bit is always 0) plus 6 bit process id to 32 bit physical address.
Machine has a 6 bit current process id; process id is part of 38 bit virtual address.

 man: sticky
This feature is usefully applied to directories such as /tmp which must be publicly writable but should deny users the license to arbitrarily delete or rename each others' files.
A file in a sticky directory may only be removed or renamed by a user if the user has write permission for the directory and the user is the owner of the file, the owner of the directory, or the super-user.
A directory whose `sticky bit' is set becomes an append-only directory, or, more accurately, a directory in which the deletion of files is restricted.

Adding 64-bit Pointer Support to 32-bit Run-time Library
Since the unmodified function name (strcat, XXX) is to be in the pointer size specified by the /pointer_size qualifier, the pointer size is changed from 64 bits to 32 bits if and only if the user has specified /pointer_size=32.
During the first pass through , we added pointer-size pragmas to ensure that the file saved the user's pointer size, set the pointer size to 32 bits, and then restored the user's pointer size at the end of the header.
The compiler has a new qualifier called /pointer_size, which sets the default pointer size for the compilation to either 32 bits or 64 bits.

Tips For Linux - What are the SUID, SGID and the Sticky Bits?
Since the SUID bit tells Linux that the the User ID root is set for this application and whenever this application executes it must execute as if root was executing it (since root owns this file).
The concept behind SUID bit is that you as the superuser would be able to allow certain applications / scripts to be run by the users as if they were the superuser for the time being.
As a home user (where you are both the normal user and the superuser) the SUID bit helps you do a lot of things easily without having to log in as the superuser every now and then.

The surface of a current hard disk that uses "embedded servo" or "sector servo" technology has two kinds of data recorded on it--servo information and user data.
The number of tracks per zone has to vary a bit to make all the numbers come out even, but most zones have the same number of tracks, again for convenience.
This is different from the old MFM and RLL drives that had all the user data recorded at a single data rate.

Further down the road, there is the "Blackcomb" operating system, which is due sometime around 2008, and will have both a client (for the average user) and server version.
Most modern operating systems were designed for security in a multi-user and/or networked environment and have a relatively small number of security issues.
Modern operating systems need to cater for the vastly increased user base with a lower average computer skill level and the increased power and complexity of modern computer systems.

Until now it seems Windows is a virus but there are fundamental differences: Viruses are well supported by their authors, are running on most systems, their program code is fast, compact and efficient and they tend to become more sophisticated as they mature.

 Bit Torrent
The desired bit torrent file or collection of files is downloaded from the sources provided by the tracker server, and while it is downloaded, it is also uploaded to other sources, with the client utilizing the amount of bandwidth available to it unless a limit is set by the user.
It also provides statistics about the number of transfers to allow for faster bit torrent downloads, the number of nodes who have a complete copy of the file and number of nodes who only have a partial copy also allowing the user to resume bit torrent download.
Unlike traditional file sharing systems, the primary intention of torrents and the bit torrent client is to provide an efficient way to distribute the same file to a large group of people by having everybody that downloads a file also upload it to others.

All of bit literacy can be distilled into a simple philosophy that allows people to regain their life, free from information anxiety, while still living in the bits.
Ten years ago we engaged bits through a "user interface" on a "personal computer." But the bits were bottled up, not very engaging, and couldn't touch us except when we sat in front of the screen.
Obviously, bits have become more important to the average technology user since then.

 SRCF: Bit Rot
The policy of allowing user and society material to rot away on the Facility is gradually being abandoned under pressure from resource issues, takedown requests, privacy concerns, etc. In principle, no user or society is immortal, and it is not in the interests of the Society to manage its resources as though they were.
Whereas there are procedures for creating and (to a lesser extent) zapping users, there's no real equivalent in respect of societies.
The way the system works currently is as follows: there is a well-defined set of people who are supposed to have access to the Facility.

Personal computer - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A personal computer or PC is generally a microcomputer intended to be used by one person at a time, and suitable for general purpose tasks such as word processing, programming, or game play, usually used to run purchased or other software not written by the user.
The user of a modern personal computer may have significant knowledge of the operating environment and application programs, but is not necessarily interested in programming nor even able to write programs for the computer.
The first generation of microcomputers were called just that, and only sold in small numbers to those able to (build them from kits or) operate them: engineers and accomplished hobbyists (for example, the Altair 8800).

Microsoft Host Integration Server 2000 - Data Encryption
Data Encryption is RC4 40-bit encryption that secures traffic between the client computer and Host Integration Server 2000 on a per-user basis.
Data encryption is enabled for Distributed Link Service by adding the domain user account under which Host Integration Server 2000 services such as SnaBase or SnaServer are running to the SNA subdomain.
Client-to-server encryption prevents information from being sent in clear text between Host Integration Server 2000 client workstations and Host Integration Server 2000 computers.

Skyline and 40-bit vs 64-bit WEP Encryption
The standard WEP encryption accepts a five-byte sequence from the user and combines it with three bytes from the 802.11b header for a total of eight bytes or 64 bits.
Thus "40-bit" describes the length of the user-supplied key, while "64-bit" describes the whole binary number used for encryption, but both terms describe the same level of security and are compatible with each other.
Farallon and other manufacturers have used the phrase "40-bit" to describe the WEP encryption supported by the PN473 Skyline Wireless PC Card, while others have refered to the same level of encryption as "64-bit," resulting in confusion as to which products are compatible.

Notes on 64-bit Drivers and STREAMS: A White Paper
To enable a 64-bit driver and a 32-bit application to share memory, the binary layout generated by the 64-bit driver must be the same as consumed by the 32-bit application.
driver entry points, which interact directly with user applications, need to be written to determine whether the argument came from an application using the same data model as the kernel.
However, some pseudo-devices that export mappings to the user address space might want to export different data structures to ILP32 or LP64 applications.
