"Usonia" was his name for the reformed Ameraican society the he tried for the last 25 years of his life to bring about.

The Reisleys were among the original 47 Usonia families who were interviewed to determine whether they were committed to the community's architectural and social principles.

Usonia was and is one of the few successful cooperative communities in the United States, and is unique for a variety of reasons.
He and his wife dedicated themselves to Wright’s tutelage and pitched the idea to friends and family, and ultimately created enough interest to start a cooperative development that was under the guidance of Wright.
Wright’s influence in the community was obvious at the onset, but within 5 years of groundbreaking, he was done with it and many of the newer inhabitants were done with him.

While each example is unique, the homes possess common features: cantilevered roofs, large expanses of glass that invite the outdoors in, carports instead of garages, interiors with wall-size fireplaces and free-flowing rooms (a concept Wright called "breaking the box") and radiant floor heating.
That was a source of occasional conflict between him and the future owners, says Reisley, a retired physicist and author of "Usonia New York: Building A Community With Frank Lloyd Wright." A design panel had to be formed to serve as intermediary between the members, Wright and the architects, many of them his former apprentices.
For Wright, whose anti-urban sentiments were well-known, Usonia represented the quintessential American settlement of the future and his firm belief that the right setting and dwelling could transform a person's life.

The Esperanto version of Biocrawler says that "the Esperanto word Usono comes from Usonia, a word occasionally proposed to avoid the use of "America"." Of course, this motivation disagrees with the accounts by several of Wright's biographers.
The Zamenhof citation is from his speech at the 1910 World Esperanto Convention in Washington, D.C. The Reta Vortaro says (of the American English term "Usonia") that it was coined by Frank Lloyd Wright "around the turn of the 19th/20th centuries".
Maybe we should cite the Reta Vortaro for the attribution of "Usono" to "Usonia" but express reservations given the later date of the first known use by Wright than the first known use in Esperanto.
