Kagawa comprises the northeast corner of Shikoku, bordering Ehime Prefecture on the west and Tokushima Prefecture on the south, with a coastline on the Seto Inland Sea facing Okayama Prefecture and the Kansai.
Kagawa is a relatively narrow prefecture between the mountains of Shikoku and the sea.
On January 10, 2006 the towns of Mure and Aji from Kita District, the towns of Kagawa and Konan from Kagawa District and the town of Kokubunji from Ayauta District merged into the city of Takamatsu.

Utazu is now undergoing the remodeling of the town, featuring the construction of Shin Utazu Toshi V‰F‘½’ÓsŽs on the site of former salt paddies 1,900 km.
Shin Utazu Toshi, meaning New Utazu City, will be a sort of futuristic city, meeting the needs of 8,700 inhabitants there in terms of communication, transportation, business, education, recreation, sightseeing and all kinds of supplies and services.
Traditionally, Utazu was a port town, temple town and castle town, which enjoyed its heyday during the Muromachi Period (1392-1573).

Takamatsu is the capital of Kagawa prefecture, which has traditonally been called the gateway to Shikoku, with the whole land of the prefecture jutting out into the Seto Inland Sea like a porch.
Sutoku was defeated and banished to Sanuki (Kagawa Prej.) to die a miserable death 8 years later.
The first person to air the idea of the Seto Ohashi Bridge was Okubo Jinnojo ‘å‹v•ÛèK”Vå@(1849-1891), a Kagawa native, who at that time was constructing the first Shikoku Roads to link all the prefectures on the island.

The water feature in Sakaide, Japan, opened in conjunction with the Seto Ohashi Bridge, to celebrate the completion of the world’s longest combined highway and railway bridge.
At the close of the Expo, the feature was relocated to its permanent home at the base of the Gold Tower in Utazu, Japan.
The feature was reformed in plan to square, to address the site, and is best viewed from Utazu’s tallest building.
