Riding a bicycle isn’t only a good workout— it’s also a great option for short-distance trips, for navigating areas where nimble transportation is required, and for users who can’t afford more expensive options.
In the Netherlands, for example, bicycles account for nearly 30 percent of all urban trips—compared with less than 1 percent in the U.S., proving that bikes are not just for less-developed countries.

 Stability of Dahon Bicycle
When a bicycle is in a turn, it must lean inwards a precise amount that is determined by the bicycle's speed and the radius of the turn, according to well-accepted laws of physics.
If the bicycle leans to the right, the upward force of the road on the bicycle tire, the force that prevents the bicycle from sinking into the ground, moves to the left side of the bicycle and deviates from the steering axis.
The difference is that racing bicycles require great stability and are ridden by well-informed and skilled cyclists, while utility bicycles are purchased by less well- informed persons who dislike the feed-back to the handlebars that a stable bicycle produces and who don't like stability because a stable bicycle responds by steering to their inadvertent wobbles.

 Hub gear - Wikicars
Hub gears work by internal planetary or epicyclic gearing, which means that the outer case of the hub gear unit (which is attached to the spokes) is made to turn at a different speed relative to the rear wheel's sprocket depending on which gear is selected.
The system is useful for folding bicycles (where a multiple front chainset could foul the bike's folding mechanism) and in recumbent bicycles and freight bicycles (where small wheels and/or increased weight require a wider range of gears with smaller individual steps between each ratio).
Bicycles built with internal hub gears instead of derailleurs also are less vulnerable to damage in shipping.

When a modern company sets out to build a bicycle, what they really build is the frame (if that.) They buy sets of tubing from a tubing company, cut and weld them together into a frame, paint it and install parts which they buy different specialized parts companies.
Actually, many well-known brands don't even do that; they order bicycle frames to be built to their specifications, with their name painted on, and equipped with parts from a variety of vendors.
