The British found that the uplands of Sri Lanka were very suited to coffee, tea and rubber cultivation, and by the mid 19th century Ceylon tea had become a staple of the British market, bringing great wealth to a small class of white tea planters.
Although the JVP rebellion was suppressed, the JVP established a permanent place in Sri Lankan politics as a voice of extreme Sinhalese chauvinism, along with the movement within the UNP associated with Cyril Mathew.

Four stories appeared yesterday about UVa.’s plan to increase the amount of aid it offers to poorer students, although since one story suggests that families making up to $100,000 might qualify you’ve got to question my use of the term “poorer.” Three of the stories are here, here, and here.
A side effect, UVa officials have said, would be an expected 8 percent to 10 percent annual rise in tuition for the next five years.
UVa President John T. Casteen III said he didn't know what impact the aid plan's expansion would have on state legislators, who "have not been involved in financial aid matters for some time now.

For this current generation of students which, unlike previous generations, lives with no a grand sense of social purpose or civic consciousness, the university should be the place where students, regardless of personal history or background, are shaken out of their comfort zones.

As for the colleges in Virginia, UVA and W&M have specific histories of just simply being wrong on race, and it's only been 35 years or so since Black students were welcomed onto their campuses.
Having gone to, George Mason, the one public university in VA that is known for being both institutionally pro-diversity and anti-affirmative action (in terms of equal admisssions standards and treatment of all students), I have seen a higher-ed model for diversity that is not a matter of pushing race in anyone's face all the time.
I mostly agree with you, but UVA did not even admit women til 1970, so regardless of her race, she would not have been admitted to UVA in the 1960s because she was a woman, her race would have been moot.
