Safari Ntanama, Bugumba Tanganika and Zamukulu Mulungula are reportedly being detained at the "Bureau 2" military prison in Uvira.
According to local sources, the journalists were reportedly arrested by order of Tommy Tambwe Rudima, vice-governor of South-Kivu province, who is upset that the journalists broadcast news that he judged to be critical of his movement.
He was also upset that they had described the Uvira district as being in a "moribund" state.

In 1997, an emergency village was established in Uvira, 120 km south of Bukavu, to accommodate war orphans and abandoned children, to care for them and, if possible, help them find their families again.
The villages in Bukavu and Uvira became repeatedly caught in the whirl of political events, evacuation plans had to be prepared, the facilities were looted, militias and soldiers used the SOS Children's Village premises as temporary warehouses.
Compared to Uvira, the situation in Bukavu is extremely critical and dangerous; there is a lot of crime, frequent looting, rape and murder.

Over the weekend, nearly 2,000 refugees arrived in Burundi after the south Kivu town of Uvira, on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, fell to the Mai-Mai militia, which is close to the Kinshasa regime.
Uvira is located just across the border from the Burundian capital, Bujumbura.
Mai Mai rebels were also said to be urging refugees who had crossed into Burundi to return home as Uvira was in "safe hands." There were reports that Burundi soldiers had been deployed to the border to secure the area.
