Uwchlan, like all of Pennsylvania’s municipalities, was given the ability to increase the tax by state legislation passed earlier this year and signed by Gov. Ed Rendell on Nov. 30.
Uwchlan Township's goal to shift two-thirds of the present property tax burden to an increased occupation tax seem unreasonably harsh on workers, and will in effect shift the burden from owners of business properties to the employees of those properties.

Uwchlan Township (pronunced /ˈyu klən/, but /ˈɪux lan/ in the original Welsh) is a township in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States.
In the township the population was spread out with 30.2% under the age of 18, 5.2% from 18 to 24, 34.0% from 25 to 44, 24.1% from 45 to 64, and 6.6% who were 65 years of age or older.
The northern part of the township is crossed by Interstate 76 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) and is home to Exit 312 of the Turnpike, an interchange with Route 100.

By 1712 Uwchlan was surveyed and recognized as a township, the first roads were recorded in County road dockets, and the Welsh Quakers had requested their own meeting.
Since there were already a few sites in Pennsylvania named “Red Lion” the post office was given the name “Lionville.” The post office established in the village of Eagle was given the name “Uwchland,” incorrectly adding a “d” to the end of the Welsh name.
Now the office of the Uwchlan Township Historical Commission, the origins of the John Cadwalader House can be traced to the log structure built by John Cadwalader in 1711.

Township boundaries were slightly revised in 1860, when the lines abutting East and West Nantmeal Township were changed and a second adjustment between Uwchlan Township and Wallace Township was finalized.
Archaeological and historical research indicates that Wallace Township's earliest eighteenth century inhabitants included remnants of the Brandywine and Okehocking bands of the Lenape Indians, who dwelt in the area from approximately 1720 to 1740.
After the Pennsylvania General Assembly passed the Free School Act in 1836, "Indiantown School" was opened to the public; the facility continued to support Wallace Township in an educational capacity for more than one hundred years.

Large amounts of lithium waste waters were disposed of into a former limestone quarry known as the "wet quarry" until 1975, when Foote stopped the disposal under orders from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources.
Until 1966, municipal wastes, demolition debris, and waste water from cleaning drums contaminated with lithium were disposed of in a nearby "dry quarry." The wet quarry contains approximately 50 feet of waste material; the dry quarry, 15 feet.
Four public water systems are involved: Philadelphia Suburban Water Co., Uwchlan Township Municipal Authority, and two smaller systems.
