 V For Vendetta film review
V For Vendetta is way too heavy handed in its political doctrines to effectively make its point.
V finds an ally for his cause in the elfin figure of Evey (Natalie Portman) who he rescues from impending rape at the hands of a group of Fingermen, a quasi-police unit used to impose the curfew.
V establishes his intentions by first blowing up the Old Bailey and then hijacking the national television network to urge the public to unite with him on his treasonous cause against their government.

V For Vendetta movie review, In Film Australia
In V for Vendetta that logic is supposed to be taken at face value: the thought of an idea actually being the body behind the mask is a crucial part of this character.
The frothy world of V is based slightly in the future, where England is possessed by a 1984-esque regime, its citizens having long traded their individual freedoms for medical treatments and the comforts of solidarity.
Sadly V for Vendetta seems cautiously unwilling to grope with this kind of logic and shirks any serious discussion of vigilante justice in favour of handsomely zooming in on the carnage it ensures.

village voice > film > V for Vendetta by J. Hoberman
V for Vendetta, which opens March 16, is nothing if not topical in its fantasies.
Supremely tasteless, V for Vendetta, with the mysterious V (Hugo Weaving) haunting London in an insouciantly smiling Guy Fawkes mask, was scheduled to have its premiere last November on the day of the Plot's 400th anniversary.
V's full-face disguise recalls the ski masks of the Italian Red Brigades; his slashing trademark is a recognizable permutation on the anarchist "A." This empty signifier argues for terror as a semiotician might—an attack on symbols—and he paraphrases Emma Goldman on the revolutionary importance of dancing.

Locus Online: Claude Lalumière reviews V for Vendetta
Much of V for Vendetta's strength comes from the details: the wry pop-culture references, the moments of resigned desperation, the flashes of unabashed romanticism, the images that remind us that the potential for fascism is still with us, much closer to home than we should be comfortable with.
V for Vendetta is a powerfully effective and affecting film.
Near the end of both the comics and the film, in what is perhaps a nod to the conclusion of Patrick McGoohan's allegorical TV series The Prisoner, there comes a surreal and symbolic event in which delusion invades reality, although film and comics diverge on the both the moment shown and the symbolism chosen.

V for Vendetta (2006): Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving, Stephen Rea, Stephen Fry - PopMatters Film Review
V first appears in a dark alley, where he saves Evey (Natalie Portman) from being raped by a brace of grubby cops.
But when she resists V's initial nice-guy indoctrination (he makes her tea and eggs for breakfast), she is subjected to more drastic methods: she's locked up, interrogated, and tortured for some unknown time, living in a cell with rats and reading the written-on-toilet-paper story of a radiant-in-flashbacks lesbian prisoner, now dead and much romanticized.
The film never lets a metaphor speak for itself ("If you're looking for the guilty," asserts V, "You need only look into the mirror") or lets you forget an image, as when a scene showing V's youthful abuse is replayed several times, to ensure the connection between his experience and Evey's.

V for Vendetta more than continues the current crop of seriously done comic book fillm adaptations (Batman Begins, X2, Sin City, and A History of Violence) but it also shows that Alan Moore's work can be adapted well to the screen when given to the right people.
V happens upon young Evey (Natalie Portman) who unwillingly becomes his prodigy, but when a close friend is murdered at the hands of the government she becomes a little more willing to help make a statement.

The comic, also titled “V for Vendetta”, was created by celebrated comic book writer Alan Moore in the 1980s.
The review covers the political inspiration for the film and comic, Guy Fawkes and the 1605 “Gun Powder Plot”, the films portrayal of anarchism and anarchist influence, sci-fi fantasy and film as a medium for social commentary, the use of violence as a tool for social change and classical anarchist strategy for revolution.

"V for Vendetta" was written by Andy and Larry Wachowski and directed by James McTeigue, who previously collaborated with the brothers on the Matrix flicks.
The film also puts more emphasis on the thematic ties with "1984" (the Leader is made almost literally into Big Brother, ranting down from giant screens), "Le Comte de Monte-Cristo" (the ultimate revenge story) and Batman (with the idea that a symbol, a mask, is more powerful than a man).
I've mostly written about the thoughts "V for Vendetta" provokes, but as literary and complex as it is, it also packs more visceral thrills, notably one of the most brutal and visually stunning action scenes I've ever seen - think of an insane cross between the climactic swordfight in "Yojimbo" and The Matrix's bullet-time.

V for Vendetta is visually stunning, marvellously rich and possibly the first great Alan Moore adaptation.
I think this film can only be enjoyed if you see it for what it is, a jolly good romp, but it is true it fell far short of the graphic novel however as fan of anti-heroes i have to say with a slight tinge of embarrassment that i did enjoy it.

V for Vendetta reviewed on the official website of writer, Laura Hird
Britain is under the jackboot of the High Chancellor (John Hurt, in a somewhat cartoonish perpetually ranting performance), a fascistic slug whose evil government controls the populace through intimidation (fear of incarceration or of terrorism or of being ‘different’ and suffering the consequences) and spin-doctors and curfews and spies and totalitarian terror in general.
As I said, ‘V’ depressingly reflects some of what is going on in the world right now, where a throwaway scene from a popular television program with a maniacally laughing turban-wearing Arab menacing a screaming tied-up white woman with dynamite can speak volumes about popular culture and current culture-clash and mind-control mindsets.
We never truly find out 100% about how V came to be who he is and how he came to finance some of the things he buys in the film, like thousands of replicas of his mask (wherever they came from) that are used at a pivotal moment of the climax.

Filming such large-scale action has been a revelation of sorts for McTeigue, who cut his teeth as assistant director on 'The Matrix' trilogy and the last two 'Star Wars' films.
Nevertheless, it's fair to say that passers-by were shocked and stunned by the sheer scale of it all, and if the cast and crew can capture even an ounce of that awe on film, they are sure to have a hit on their hands when 'V for Vendetta' hits screens on March 17 next year.

 V for Vendetta
It's a polarizing film, and I confess that I'm too far to one side politically by now to see it in anything other than a ideologically gratifying light, but as a film it's also well-made: slick, exhilarating and outrageous.
Still, it's useful to remember that today, V for Vendetta feels like a slap in the face and a kick in the shorts; damnit if, when the Old Bailey loses its head, I didn't feel a little like whooping with that pleasure of destructive juvenile resistance.
Already scourged in some corners as an apologia for terrorism, V for Vendetta is instead a cautionary tale about how monolithic governments create revolutionaries from ordinary people when they intimately violate them.
