  Install vc++ 6.0 on top of vc++ 2005 express? - MSDN Forums
For one thing the C++ compiler that comes in VC++ 6.0 is old and tired and does not care too much about standards so you should give it a rest.
When it comes to the IDE itself there may be some features in VC++ 6.0 that are missing from VC++ 2005 Express (because you have the Pro edition of 6.0 and the Express edition of 2005).
The heavy-metal solution: Use VC++ 2005 Express Edition and pure Windows SDK (and DirectX) API operation at the Win32 level.  If you want to use a 64-bit processor for greater performance, you you will need to use a commercial version of VC++ 2005 or Visual Studio 2005.

  Victoria Cross - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The VC was first issued on January 29, 1856, recognising acts of valour during the Crimean War of 1854-1855.
All VCs are cast from the bronze cascabels of two cannon of Chinese origin that were captured from the Russians at the siege of Sevastopol, although during the First World War metal from guns captured from the Chinese during the Boxer Rebellion was also used.
A VC awarded in 1917 to Corporal Filip Konowal, [4] a Canadian soldier who had emigrated from Ukraine in 1913, was stolen from the same museum in 1973, and was not recovered until 2004.

It woud be easy to bind the kp_enter key to the VC menu, but i'm not sure about making the KP numbers work with the VC menu.
I haven't looked into it very long but the problem I see is that once you have the VC menu open, that menu is looking for the #'s on the top row.
Once in the VC menu I don't think those are commands you are sending, just the key.

 ARToolKit support for MS VC++ 6.   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
So version 9.0b was the last version with support for MS VC++ 6.
What this may mean is that we will have to drop support for MS VC++ 6 from ARToolKit at some stage.
In order to gauge whether we can do this now, I'd be good to gauge how many of you are still using MS VC++ 6 with ARToolKit, and how many of you are using MS VC++ for VS.NET.

VC++ 6.0/makefile.vc: 10:34 min VC++ 6.0/mys/configure: 13:28 min mingw/msys/configure: 11:41 min
The notable difference between the VC++ 6.0 with makefile.vc build tclsh84 and the VC++ 6.0 with msys/configure build tclsh84 was surprising.
While the default optimization level for gcc on unix some times ago was cranked up from the for ages used -O to -O2, under windows the default for gcc based builds at 8.4.9 is still -O. Bumping that up to -02 sucked a bit more speed out of the mingw build.
