  VDV - Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen - VDV-Projekte
For this reason the “VDV core application”, a data and interface standard, was developed within the scope of a research project.
The implementation of this standard enables customers to buy tickets from all participating transport operators or to take part in the “automated fare collection”, using one single chip card.
The VDV recommendations 453 and 454, "Integration Interface for Automatic Vehicle Management Systems" set down common requirements for the design of interfaces between automatic vehicle management systems (AVMS).

On the 24th December, the VDV forces at Bagram seized control of the airfield and the main elements of the 105th Guards began to arrive from their base in the neighbouring Turkestan Military District.
The VDV supplied a number of ad hoc regiments to the fight, and although even they were not once what they were under the Soviet Union, they outshone the rest of the forces assembled in the Caucasus.
The second reorganisation was the reduction in establishment of the VDV from 60,000 to 48,500 (down to 3 divisions and two brigades) recognising the unpalatable fact of undermanning, and rumours have continued to persist that the VDV might even loose its status as a separate branch of service and merge with the Ground Forces.

 Commercial VDV specialists
A contributing factor to the dot-com bust that had a direct impact on the commercial VDV market was the massive overbuilding of the fiber-optic backbone that carried long-distance communications.
VDV specialists had the stomachs to weather these storms, but most electrical distributors moved on in search of greener pastures.
Niche VDV players tend to specialize within these market segments, although some of the larger distributors are a force in all market segments.

 Soviet Airborne and Airmobile
The VDV is a semi-independent branch of the army, under central Moscow control for strategic operations.
These troopers (DShB) were also screened (VDV and Spetsnaz recruiters had the pick of conscripts after induction) based on physical ability, etc. as the VDV and special purpose troops were (although I have read that soldiers selected for DShB were considered third tier compared to VDV and Spetsnaz).
An article describing the physical training in a VDV regiment in Afghanistan mentioned in passing that "there wasn't a single mission where is was not necessary to cross canyons and scale peaks".

Alfa159re, it's not possible the 13 dead came from the Chechens.
The VDV had fortified positions on highground, it doesn't matter who has that position, assaulting it will cost far more than 13 men, that claim is total bullshit.
Third party and Russian reports put the Chechen dead around 400 and since casualties are usually inflicted in ratios of around 3 wounded for every one dead, it's probably alot higher.
