According to Capt. Jaden J. Kim, weapons systems officer, VMFA (AW)-121, from Illinois, and Capt. Mike Deddens, Harrier pilot, VMA-214 from Texas, their missions included providing forward air control missions, close air support and strike missions on the Marine Expeditionary Force objective area to support the Marines on the ground.
Fixed wing squadrons included Marine All Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 121, VMFA (AW)-225, VMFA-232, VMFA-251, VMFA (AW) -533, Marine Attack Squadron 542 and VMA-214.
As the aircraft provide air support, coalition ground forces consisting of the 1st Marine Division began their assault, achieving the capture of the port city of Umm Quasr before making their way to Baghdad.

 Official Biography for John F. Goodman
After graduating with honors from Marine Corps Command and Staff College, Lieutenant General Goodman reported to MCAS El Toro, California, where he served as the Operations Officer with the "Blacksheep" of VMA-214 and later as the Director of Safety, Standardization and Tactics, MAG-13.
Lieutenant General Goodman was frocked to Major General in June 2001 and took command of the 2d Marine Expeditionary Brigade on 6 July 2001.
Following commissioning, Lieutenant General Goodman received his wings in May 1973 at NAS Meridian, Mississippi, and was assigned to MCAS Yuma, Arizona, where he completed A-4 flight training.

He served as a squadron pilot with VMA-214 at El Toro, California, where he flew the A-4E and A-4F Skyhawk light-attack aircraft.
EDUCATION: Graduated from Twentynine Palms High School, Twentynine Palms, California, in 1964; received a bachelor of science degree in Engineering (minor in Aeronautical Engineering) from the United States Naval Academy in 1968 and a master of science in Aeronautical Systems from the University of West Florida in 1970.
Following 146 orbits of the earth, Columbia and her crew landed at Edwards Air Force Base, California, on June 14, 1991, to perform the first high speed nosewheel steering test on a concrete runway.

 A-4 Skyhawk Specifications
One of the famous squadrons to fly the A-4M Skyhawk is the Blacksheep of VMA-214, as seen in the photo above.
The McDonnell Douglas A-4 Skyhawk was produced for eight nations besides the United States.
The A-4M was specifically manufactured for the United States Marine Corps, and the first A-4M prototype flew on April 10, 1970.

 Aircraft: Douglas A-4M Skyhawk
I worked on A-4M Skyhawks with VMAT-102 and VMA-214 in Yuma, and with MAG-42 DET A in Cecil Field,Florida.
I just mentioned that I had once seen an A4 come in on an emergency landing and popped his drag chute at NAS Dallas.
I said this one had one Chief, It was a Marine A4M and I had a tough time stuffing that chute in a little canister.
