It must be admitted that the present-day VMRO is very far from the one in the past which monarchs and high-rank politicians from all the Balkan countries invariably reckoned with.
The VMRO is a very disciplined, determined, self-respectful and well-organized formation which is also financially independent, but it is not engaged in the administration.

New Balkan Politics - Issue 1
VMRO leaders took an extremely militant position against the so-called "sects" (which means everything which is not part of the Bulgarian Orthodox Christianity), and undertook violent measures (beating, torture) against preachers of the Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses.
If nationally the image of the VMRO is lax and contentious, it is namely there where people can not forget the legacy this organization, its attempts to revive, and their rigid stance about the Bulgarian character of the local population[8].
VMRO leaders revealed also an astonishing lack of understanding of the realities of present (FY) Republic of Macedonia, and since this appeared to be a domain, where they heavily influenced the Bulgarian politics, it is their guilt for continuing stagnation in this sphere.

VMRO's leaders Todor Aleksandrov and Aleksandar Protogerov promptly denied through the Bulgarian press that they've ever signed any agreements, claiming that the May Manifesto was a communist forgery.
While VMRO's leadership was quick to ascribe Alexandrov's murder to the communists and even quicker to organise a revenge action against the immediate perpetrators, there is some doubt that Mihailov himself might have been responsible for the murder.
VMRO was also active in organising the resistance of the Bulgarian population in Aegean Macedonia against Greek nationalist and communist bands.

The first "VMRO" in the VMRO-VMRO stands for "Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organisation," and was the name of a party associated with the national Illinden uprising against the Turks in 1903.
The second "VMRO" in the party's name stands for "True Macedonian Reform Option." A relatively new party, the VMRO-VMRO was formed eighteen months ago from and for disillusioned members of VMRO-DPMNE who accuse the government of betraying its reform commitments.
Although they call themselves the "true" VMRO, the vast majority of the VMRO-VRMO's policies are the same as those of the VMRO-DPMNE, and the newest party's emergence seems to be more a matter of personal incompatibility than a genuine political rift.

VMRO -- Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity is most certainly a party which marked the new political period in Macedonia.
Declaring itself as a "national party with exclusively liberating, national-patriotic and democratic goals", ever since the beginning, this party introduced and even nowadays still insists on polarity on the Macedonian pluralistic political scene.
The party membership, and especially its top-leaders, quickly created an image of a political party saying freely and fearlessly what is on its mind, determined to choose no means in realising its intention of "demystifying the last 45 years", describing them as a darkest period in Macedonia's existence.
