dso audio music reviews VNV Nation
It seems clear that VNV Nation has decided that, in comparison to the monumental Praise The Fallen and Empires, Advance and Follow wasn't up to their subsequent high, self-imposed standards and is already something of a musical anachronism in their output.
However, there are some notable exceptions, and VNV Nation definitely qualify; the love both Ronan Harris and Mark Jackson have for live performance is clearly apparent, and Ronan is one of the great frontmen in the genre.
For a band that has always kept tight control over their image, including their black sleeve designs, the light grey sleeve to VNV Nation's fourth album should be a big enough clue to anyone that this was a marked step onto another level for the future pop pioneers.

Heathen Harvest - Reviews: VNV Nation - Matter + Form
Having bought a previous release by VNV Nation released in 1999 titled “Empires” I have to admit that I was not smitten with the band during this time of their recording history.
The fact that VNV Nation even attempts a soft serenade of neoclassical music is in and of itself a testament to the bands musical skill and innovation.
Matter + Form is VNV Nation's fifth full length album and it sees the band breaking a previously achieved plateau as the music and lyricism has matured into a seamless blend of pulsing electronics and personalized and poetical lyricism.

VNV Nation is still finishing up their fourth album, FuturePerfect, which from Harris’ preliminary description seems a concept album steeped in the sort of social commentary you might get if you locked Aldous Huxley and William Gibson in a room together.
VNV Nation remains a two-person act even on their live shows — Jackson plays drums and Harris sings.
Characterized by sweeping string pads, rapid-fire melodic arpeggiations and hypnotic beats, VNV Nation’s more recent releases show Harris’ evolution as a vocalist, relying less on effect processors and more on melodic hooks and lyrics that spring from the metaphor of life as a battle.

VNV Nation may find themselves as something of an alien anachronism.
