	Volkswagen Eurovan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Eurovan (US and Mexico), or Transporter (UK, Ireland and North Europe) was the first front-engined van of German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and is the successor of the famous classic VW Type 2 van.
		The Eurovan, as it is called in the United States, is available in Europe in many versions both for personal and commercial use.
		The reason why in 1980 they still introduced the new rear-engined T3/Vanagon instead is unclear; rumour has it that the unions feared the closing of VW's Salzgitter factory, where the boxer engines were built, and thus forced the new design to continue to use a boxer engine, and hence be rear-engined.

		For the first time, VW is cutting the price of its EuroVan by more than 15 percent and planning to advertise the seven-passenger vehicle as an alternative to run-of-the-mill minivans.
		The EuroVan’s fuel economy ratings of 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway are lower than those for the 210-horsepower, six-cylinder-powered Odyssey as well as the 215-horsepower, V6-powered Grand Caravan.

		VW's product chief, and former COO of the Chrysler Group, Wolfgang Bernhard, confirmed at the recent Frankfurt auto show that Volkswagen is negotiating to get a version of the new Chrysler minivans due in 2008.
		VW executives have traditionally wanted a van that would price below $30,000, but one that was "uniquely a Volkswagen." Bernhard successfully developed the Crossfire off the Mercedes SLK, with no one griping that it was a knockoff or unworthy.

		VW's US sales were reported to be a mere 43,000 units in 1993, down from over half a million VWs (insects, er., Bugs) sold in the entire US in 1970 (Advertising Age, Sept. '93).
		VW has recalled (less then three months after these little insects were loosed in the environment) all 8500+ VW 1998 "new beetles" sold in the US due to a wiring problem which may be a fire hazard.

		I spent a considerable amount of time on Friday researching information on the auxiliary battery system on the EuroVan, but alas, there is essentially nothing available in the service information system except for a wiring diagram.
		After studying the wiring diagram (#9), the auxiliary battery system seems to be a simple system with the only other components being the second battery (A1), a battery cut-out relay (J7), and a bit of extra wiring.
