		Approaching the Corsa VXR from behind doesn't lead to the best of first impressions: with its squat wheel-to-each-corner stance, broad wheel arches and hind quarters, and gaping hole of a centrally positioned big-bore exhaust pipe, it resembles nothing so much as a bull terrier's bottom.
		Butched-up Corsas are so often a case of all show and no go; base 1.2s fitted with half the contents of the Demon Tweeks catalogue in an attempt to make an impression on the streets without being totally uninsurable for a young (male) driver.
		The VXR, however, is the real deal, with a turbocharged 1.6-litre engine developing 189bhp and 170lb-ft of torque, and an extra 27lb-ft available momentarily on overboost.

		VXR's only real contender is the Mazda 3 MPS and from everything I've read it has the same FWD issues as teh VXR.
		The VXR is a try-hard wannabe that has nowhere near the spirit of Holden Special Vehicles.

		The regular Monaro VXR produces 397bhp from its six-litre V8 engine, and you might have thought that would be enough to be getting on with.
		In the VXR 500, though, the same unit is supercharged to produce 493bhp (the "500" in its name refers to the power output in PS), while the maximum torque figure shoots up to 499lb/ft.
		Official performance figures are not yet available, but Vauxhall reckons the VXR 500 will manage the 0-60mph sprint in under five seconds and go on to a top speed somewhere to the north of 180mph - sturdy stuff for a car that costs £35,995 on the road.
