Building the Vacuum Box: The Vacuum Box's purpose is to serve as a good interface between the plastic held in the holder frame and the vacuum from the vacuum cleaner.
The vacuum box needs to have some supports under the top surface to keep the top surface from sagging while forming, the supports not interfering with the vacuum to any of the holes in the top of the box.
Trimming - For nose cones which were formed on a mold turned on a drill or lathe face plate, mount the mold again on the drill or lathe and put the part on the mold, with some of the excess plastic taped to the mold to hold the part in place.

 What is Vacuum Forming?
Vacuum forming, also known as thermoforming, is a technique to shape a variety of plastics to a mold called a buck.
A vacuum form table is not a complicated piece of technology -- it requires mechanisms to heat plastic and pour it over a sample, and a chamber from which all the air can be pumped out to form a vacuum, ensuring that the plastic adheres closely to the buck.
Vacuum forming does not create a form that encircles the entire mold, but only one side, because the sample must lie on the bottom of the vacuum chamber unless a special stand is used.

Vacuum Forming - Vacuum Forming Services > Thermoforming, Plastic Forming Services
Basically during vacuum forming processes, plastic material is heated until it becomes pliable, and then it is placed over a mold and drawn in by a vacuum until it takes on the desired shape.
Plug forming is a thermoforming procedure that uses a plug or male mold to press the heated thermoplastic material into the female mold prior to the application of a vacuum.
A partial vacuum is then applied to the box, just enough for the necessary stretching, and the mold is pushed into the material where the box is vented to atmospheric pressure that draws on a vacuum.

At that point vacuum is applied through the mold, and the vacuum box is allowed to vent to the atmosphere (or light pressure is applied in place of the vacuum).
Vacuum is then applied through the mold, causing atmospheric pressure to push the sheet down into the mold.
Plug assist pressure forming is similar to plug assist vacuum forming, except that as the plug enters the sheet, air under the sheet is vented to the atmosphere.

Vacuum forming mold - Patent 4063705
The mold area subtended by the manifold conduits is substantially less than the area of the entire forming surface, thereby substantially limiting the force exerted upon the forming surface by the pressure differential created during vacuum forming of a plastic sheet.
The forming surface must either be quite thick to provide inherent strength or must be reinforced across the back to resist the pressure differential on opposite sides created by the vacuum within the chamber.
One lamina of the structure serves as the forming surface of the mold and is apertured.

Vacuum forming - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Vacuum forming is a simplified version of thermoforming, whereby a sheet of plastic is heated to a forming temperature, stretched onto or into a single-surface mold, and held against the mold by applying vacuum between the mold surface and the sheet.
Vacuum forming is usually – but not always - restricted to forming plastic parts that are rather shallow in depth.
Suitable materials for use in vacuum forming are conventionally thermoplastics, the most common and easiest being High Impact Polystyrene Sheeting.
